Contingency Corner: Insider Threat
An Insider Threat comes from the intentional or unintentional use of legitimate access to cause harm or damage.
All organizations face a risk of insider threats, though most are unintentional:
- Train staff to identify phishing scams and conduct testing if possible
- Encourage reporting of security incidents and things that are out of the ordinary
- Enforce the use of strong passwords and two-factor authentication to protect data
- Ensure accountability for all devices that touch your networks
- Build trust within your organization to avoid damage from disgruntled staff
- Consider how your organization will identify and respond to breaches
