Contingency Corner: The Louage
The louage (French for “rental”) is synonymous with inter-city travel and an essential part of life for many.
To minimize your exposure to risk in a louage, consider the following:
- Avoid carrying valuables where visible
- At the station, only speak with louage drivers about your intended destination
- Close windows when stopped or moving slowly to avoid theft by passersby
- Pay the driver directly
- Avoid Friday afternoons and Monday mornings when demand is high
- Try for a seat with a working seatbelt
