Protests: Awareness and Response
In a particularly tense political season, it is helpful to review options for responding to a protest. A few simple steps will keep personnel prepared in the event they come upon a protest or similar activity. Keep the following in mind as you plan and consider your organizational planning and posture:
- Be aware of the political situation
- Carry ID or a copy of your ID
- Know and avoid common protest sites
- Weekends, particularly Saturday, are a common time for protests
- Do not attempt to drive or walk through a gathered crowd
- Be aware of increased police presence
- Calmly move away from flashpoints where protestors and police may meet
