Morocco: $1 Billion Terminal Expansion Planned for Casablanca
Summary:
In November 2025, Morocco’s National Airports Office, or ONDA, announced an international tender for the construction of a new passenger terminal at Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport. The project is estimated to cost $1 billion (approximately MAD 10 billion).
The announcement is part of Morocco’s $4.2 billion “Airports 2030” strategy, which outlines a broad range of upgrades the country’s aviation infrastructure. The strategy seeks to significantly expand capacity in light of Morocco’s planned co-hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal.
The terminal will be an H-shaped structure covering around 600,000 square meters and including eco-friendly design, natural light, and sustainable construction materials.
Once operational, the new terminal will handle 20 million passengers a year with plans for capacity to receive 30 million passengers by 2030. The expansion will increase Casablanca’s overall capacity from 14 million today to nearly 40 million.
According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), aviation contributes MAD 112 billion ($11.2 billion) to Morocco’s GDP and supports 856,000 jobs, representing 7.9% of the country’s economy.
Outlook:
While an essential step to expand capacity to handle an influx of passengers for the World Cup in 2030, the planned airport expansion is a continuation of Morocco’s investment in its infrastructure that is increasingly positioning the country as a premier destination for both tourism and investment on the African continent.
The construction phase of the project will generate significant economic stimulus via employment opportunities in the Moroccan market and provide contracts for local suppliers and construction firms. The expanded airport capacity should support increased foreign direct investment, tourism revenue, and trade facilitation.
Companies with operations or expansion plans in Morocco should monitor the project’s progress, as improved aviation infrastructure will likely enhance business connectivity and reduce logistical constraints in the North African market.
