Tunisia: Efforts on Cybersecurity Cooperation Expand East
Summary:
On 3 December 2024, Tunisia hosted the fourth session of the International Cybersecurity Forum under the theme “Trust and Cybersecurity: Pioneering Innovations and Strategies for a Safer Digital Future” which marked a continued effort to support a dialogue on cybersecurity awareness and cooperation in the Arab world.
The Minister of Communication Technologies, Sofiane Al-Hamisi, said, on the sidelines of the forum, that “this event comes within the framework of continuing to strengthen joint Arab action and consolidate a strategy for a smart, secure and sustainable Arab digital future.”
The Minister also met on 6 December the Vice Minister of Cyberspace Administration of China with whom he discussed the development of communications infrastructure and the uses of artificial intelligence.
The bilateral meeting also tackled the exchange of various experiences and expertise and plans for participation in future international forums organized by the two countries.
Outlook:
Tunisia is seeking to expand its international cooperation and demonstrate regional leadership through organizing international conferences on cybersecurity and pressing for engagement with international partners. Tunisia had previously reached cooperation agreements with Italy, the European Union and the United States on cybersecurity and these latest developments show a growing interest in engaging Eastern partners in the same field.
As Tunisia continues to work toward the digitalization of administrative procedures and the establishment of digital platforms to facilitate investments, securing the Tunisian cyberspace will be essential to the functionality, reliability, and public trust in these resources. Working with both Western and Eastern countries bolsters Tunisian cyber-defense and provides domestic institutions with needed familiarity with the cyber threat landscape and the ever-evolving tools to support cyber defense.
