Contingency Corner: Cliff Jumping

by | Jul 15, 2024 | Contingency

Cliff jumping is a popular summer pastime in North Africa and around the Mediterranean region, but continues to be the cause of numerous deaths each year.

This extreme sport can seem harmless and entertaining, but remains deadly:

Consider the following to avoid unnecessary risk:

  • Avoid cliff jumping. (We had to say it.) Jump at your own risk.
  • Jump only if you’re a capable swimmer.
  • Jump with others. Never alone.
  • Jump only in known locations where the activity has been safely done before.
  • Avoid jumping into rough seas as strong waves can significantly increase risk.
  • Position people near the landing zone to monitor the jumper on impact.
