Summary:

On 8 September 2025, a delegation from the Moroccan mining group Managem, led by Business Development Director Khalid Hammouch, visited China National Machinery Engineering Corporation (CNMEC). The Moroccan delegation was welcomed by CNMEC Vice President Chen Jun and representatives of its subsidiary, China Machinery Industry Construction Group Co., Ltd. (CMIC).

Chen Jun expressed CNMEC’s confidence in Morocco’s long-term market prospects, highlighting opportunities in renewable energy, industry, and infrastructure, and noted the alignment between Morocco’s strategy and Managem’s activities. He highlighted CNMEC aims to leverage its expertise in project integration and financing to foster strategic partnerships and implement concrete projects.

Hammouch outlined Managem’s main activities in mining and green energy, presented its long-term vision, and highlighted flagship projects under development, expressing hope for deeper, more tangible cooperation with CNMEC.

Outlook:

Morocco’s engagement with CNMEC underscores its strategic drive to become a regional leader through major projects in mining, renewable energy, and infrastructure.

The partnership could accelerate development, attract advanced technical expertise, and create opportunities for joint financing and industrial collaboration with China, further expanding Chinese firms’ footprint in North Africa.

However, ongoing legal disputes over several mining projects with foreign investors could undermine long-term confidence and challenge Morocco’s ambitious industrial agenda.
