Mauritania: RAMINVEST Advances Gold and Rare Earth Exploration at Wompou and Tabatanet
Summary:
On 10 September 2026, RAMINVEST Holding announced the next phase of its gold exploration program at the Wompou Gold Project in Mauritania. According to the announcement, sampling returned assay values of up to 50.14 g/t gold, with six priority targets identified for initial drilling.
The company plans to conduct further geological and geochemical work followed by targeted drilling, subject to technical and regulatory approvals. RAMINVEST is also advancing the Tabatanet Project, which contains rare earth elements and niobium.
Outlook:
Mauritania is continuing to attract greater investment into its mining sector as competition for mineral resources intensifies globally. The expansion of exploration beyond the country’s traditional mining base could gradually increase the number of foreign operators and projects competing for prospective ground.
This may also strengthen the government’s position in attracting capital into less-developed parts of the mining sector, particularly as demand for gold and critical minerals remains strong. Continued exploration success would further support Mauritania’s efforts to diversify its mining industry and increase its relevance to international mineral supply chains.
