Mauritania: OBT Entry Targets Mauritania’s Growing Mining Logistics Demand

by | Oct 10, 2026 | Economic, Mauritania

Summary:

On 8 October 2026, African shipping and logistics company OBT announced the opening of a local operation in Mauritania, citing increased activity in the country’s mining and energy sectors. The office will provide freight forwarding and project logistics services, with a focus on Nouakchott and Nouadhibou ports.

OBT said it had already managed complex cargo operations in Mauritania, including the distribution of 33 containers to more than 20 destinations and the transport of oversized equipment. The expansion will link local operations to OBT’s wider African network and Dubai headquarters.

Outlook:

OBT’s decision to establish a local operation suggests that Mauritania’s mining and energy activity is creating commercial opportunities for international service providers beyond the extraction and production stages.

The company’s expansion reflects growing demand for specialized logistics as foreign operators require equipment imports and transport services to support projects across the country.

This points to the gradual development of a wider business ecosystem around Mauritania’s resource sectors, with international firms increasingly positioning themselves to serve the operational needs of major projects from within the country.
