Car Accidents: Preparation and Response
Car accidents happen frequently in Tunisia given the style of driving, as well as the challenges with congestion and infrastructure. We recommend consideration of the following in the unfortunate event you experience a car accident:
- Have emergency numbers (Police: 197, Ambulance/Fire: 190, National Guard: 193) and basic first-aid supplies in your vehicle
- Keep an accident report form*, the vehicle’s Certificat d’Immatriculation (carte grise), proof of insurance, and a working pen in the vehicle
- Address physical injuries first
- Regardless of the response of other drivers involved, remain calm
- If you perceive the accident scene is unsafe, leave immediately
- Generally, insist on reporting the incident officially via insurance claim
