Contingency Corner: Dehydration Risk
As risk managers, we consistently raise the risk of dehydration to those operating in North Africa.
Particularly in the summer months, dehydration is can easily occur. In some cases, waiting for the initial signs could leave personnel exposed and without access to water.
Consider the following to avoid unnecessary risk:
- Increase your water consumption, especially during the summer months
- Plan ahead and consider how you will have access to clean water
- Watch for the signs of dehydration…:
- faintness
- dizziness
- extreme thirst
- dry mouth
- dark urine
- confusion
- …But don’t wait for them!
- Drink water consistently throughout the day, adding electrolytes on occasion if possible
