Contingency Corner: Desert Driving
Tunisia’s deserts are one of the country’s treasures, but desert travel comes with additional risks even when sticking to paved roads.
Consider the following when taking a trip to the sandy south:
- Fully service and fuel your vehicle
- Pack extra water, food, and fuel
- Pack tools to assist in dislodging your vehicle from sand
- Watch for camels and other vehicles
- Drive with extreme caution in blowing sand and on sand covered roads
- Pre-plan your route and use GPS to follow it precisely
