Morocco: Culico and Kharrouba Copper Company Merge to Advance Moroccan Copper Development
Summary:
On 8 September 2026, Culico Metals announced a definitive agreement to merge with Kharrouba Copper Company (KCC), creating a copper-focused mining and exploration company centered on Morocco.
According to the announcement, KCC shareholders will hold a majority stake in the combined company, which will include KCC’s Kharrouba Complex and Koudiat El Harcha properties across a 158km² land package, as well as its existing mine and processing facility.
Less than 10% of the land package has been explored to date, while the transaction will also provide the combined company with additional capital for its Moroccan operations. The merger remains subject to shareholder approval and other customary conditions.
Outlook:
While Rabat continues to expand mining activity around minerals with growing strategic importance, the Culico-KCC merger could add momentum to Morocco’s copper sector by increasing exploration and development activity.
This comes as global demand for copper is expected to rise, with metals playing a critical role in electricity infrastructure and the expansion of data centers supporting artificial intelligence.
As competition for new copper supply increases, further development of Morocco’s resources could strengthen the country’s position in global copper markets and increase the strategic importance of its mining sector.
