On 3 September 2026, Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced that a remotely controlled drone had targeted a fuel depot in Tripoli, causing minor damage to pipelines and two storage tanks.  

The NOC said technical teams began reducing fuel levels in the affected tanks as a precaution, while fuel supply operations remained unaffected and no casualties were reported. The incident followed several drone strikes against fuel storage facilities at the nearby Zawiya oil complex in August.

This comes as the country’s unresolved political deadlock continues to impede the emergence of a unified security and governance framework, increasing the likelihood that instability will persist in the near term.
