Morocco: Germany’s SFC Investment Marks Latest Automotive Sector Expansion
Summary:
On 6 May 2026, German automotive supplier SFC Automotive Solutions inaugurated a new production facility in the Tanger Med industrial zone, supporting Morocco’s efforts to strengthen its position as a regional automotive manufacturing hub. The €28 million project is expected to create around 900 direct jobs and generate annual turnover estimated at €85 million.
The inauguration was attended by Moroccan officials and executives from SFC Solutions and German investment group Mutares, reflecting continued foreign industrial interest in Morocco’s export-oriented manufacturing sector. Moroccan authorities stated that the project aligns with the country’s strategy to expand automotive production and deepen integration into global supply chains.
On the sidelines of the event, Morocco and Mutares signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at facilitating the expansion of more than 40 multinational companies affiliated with the German group into the Moroccan market.
Outlook:
With this agreement, Morocco is likely to further strengthen its position as a regional manufacturing and export hub, particularly in the automotive sector, which reached $4.57 billion by March 2026,
This momentum reinforces the role of Tanger Med Port Complex as a strategic platform linking European and African trade flows and supporting Morocco’s export-led industrial model.
The MoU with Mutares could attract further European, especially German, investment as firms continue nearshoring strategies toward closer and lower-cost production bases. However, Morocco will likely face rising competition from other regional industrial hubs targeting the same investment flows, despite its current export strength.
