by | Jan 10, 2023 | Security, Tunisia

Summary:

On 10 January 2023, the Tunisian courts sentenced multiple members of an all-female terrorist cell to prison, due to links to a 2016 effort to assassinate a government official. Nine members of the group received lengthy jail sentences, including 25 years for two of the group leaders.

Outlook:

Our team continues to monitor Tunisian’s security environment, including potential vulnerability to terrorist attacks. As economic, political, and social tensions rise, pre-cursors for terrorist activity are increasingly present in Tunisia. This raises the possibility that the terrorist threat in Tunisia may rise in the coming years and months as the country struggles with unemployment, inflation, and an increasingly disenchanted generation of young citizens.
