Summary:

On 3 March 2026, Mauritania’s Minister of Digital Transformation and Administrative Modernization, Ahmed Salem Bede, met with a high-level delegation from EllaLink, led by CEO Philippe Dumont, to review progress on the international submarine cable landing station in Nouadhibou. EllaLink is a low-latency fiber optic submarine cable system connecting Europe, Africa, and South America to high-speed internet data.

Both parties noted that the project has reached 46% completion, with substantial progress on marine works, the beach chamber, station construction, and terrestrial connections.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to intensify efforts to meet contractual deadlines and complete the project by the end of 2026, aiming for the cable to become operational in the first quarter of 2027.

Outlook:

The accelerated progress of the EllaLink submarine cable project signals Mauritania’s growing emphasis on digital infrastructure as a driver of economic development and modernization.

Enhanced digital capacity may also attract foreign investment in technology, telecommunications, and related sectors, while supporting the government’s broader digital transformation agenda. The project completion could strengthen Mauritania’s competitiveness and integration into global digital networks.
