by | Feb 20, 2024 | Legal, Political, Tunisia

On 20 February 2024, police arrested two former senior employees of Banque Nationale Agricole (BNA), marking the latest steps in President Kais Saied’s anti-corruption campaign.

The two former officials were not named in most news reports, but included a former Director General with the bank and former General Secretary of the bank’s union. The government-run BNA bank has a long history in Tunisia, with a particularly strong presence in rural areas where it is focused on providing banking products to the agricultural sector.
