Summary:

On 8 December 2025, Serbia-based CWP Global, a leading developer of renewable energy and green hydrogen projects, confirmed that it is accelerating the finalization of its host government agreement (HGA) with Mauritania for the landmark AMAN green hydrogen initiative

The project, valued at $40 billion, aims to deploy 30 GW of renewable energy capacity and produce up to 1.7 million tons of green hydrogen annually, with projections indicating a potential GDP boost of 40–50% by 2030.

The announcement was made during the MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 conference and exhibition held in Dakar. Mauritania’s Director of Low Carbon Hydrogen, Taghya Abeidarrahmane, underlined the government’s commitment to an integrated energy vision, positioning green hydrogen development as a core national priority.

Outlook:

The AMAN green hydrogen project is set to reshape Mauritania’s energy sector and elevate its role in West Africa’s renewable market. The project is part of string of efforts by Mauritania to build toward a more diversified and larger-scale energy sector.

The project’s scale, with 30GW of renewable capacity and 1.7million tons of hydrogen production, reinforces the countrys potential to attract major international investments and strengthen Mauritania’s ability to meet its domestic energy needs while positioning it as an increasingly competitive energy exporter to Europe and, potentially, other African states.

The development is expected to stimulate industrial growth, expand electricity access, and create pathways for low-carbon fuels to Europe and beyond. Strategic coordination between CWP Global, national authorities, and international partners will be critical to translating this initiative into tangible economic and technological benefits, while establishing Mauritania as a leading player in the emerging green hydrogen economy.
