Tunisia: Dinar Value Drops to All-Time Low Against US Dollar

by | Sep 30, 2022 | Economic, Tunisia

Summary:

Central Bank data from 29 September 2022 revealed that the value of the Tunisian Dinar dropped to all-time low against the US dollar. The Dinar was trading above 3.3 dinars to the US dollar, a 17.5% increase from the same time last year. The Dinar has also recently traded at the lowest point in several decades against the euro and yen.

Outlook:

With the Tunisian economy already facing multiple compounding crises, a weakening currency is a natural, but devastating development. Even as the Tunisian government and private firms struggle to source and finance raw material purchases, inflation and a weakening currency will very likely compound the already widespread food shortages.
