Emergency Communications: Planning and Preparation
The risks involved in managing crises can be compounded when communications are disrupted. On occasion, loss of communications infrastructure can accompany natural disasters or civil unrest.
Every organization should consider and plan for basic steps to take in the event that communications between leaders and their personnel are disrupted.
We recommend considering these steps to increase preparedness:
- Pre-determine how you will monitor your environment and set triggers for various crisis responses.
- Consider your ability to communicate in the event of a loss of cellular and internet service.
- Outline basic plans if communication is not possible (shelter in place, pre-determined gathering place, etc.)
