Tunisia: Mobility Startup Yassir Acquires Meal Delivery App Kool

by | Jun 22, 2024 | Economic, Social, Tunisia

Summary:

On 19 June 2024, media outlets reported that mobility and delivery application provider Yassir had acquired the Tunisian food delivery application, Kool. The terms of the acquisition were not released.

Kool was founded in Tunisia in 2021 and is a main competitor in the meal delivery application space, securing exclusive partnerships with popular restaurants and brands.

Founded in the United States, Yassir is focused on the African mobility and delivery market with a presence in Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Ivory Coast, South Africa, and Senegal as well as in several European countries. Yassir recently raised $150 million in investor capital from multiple US investors.

Outlook:

The acquisition of Kool by Yassir is a promising development that highlights the persistent potential of the Tunisian startup ecosystem.

While significant policy and regulatory challenges remain for Tunisian entrepreneurs and having driven many of the country’s success stories out of the market, the creative potential exists.

If the funding, policy, and bureaucratic machinery of Tunisia’s business landscape will allow it, Tunisian startups could have a significant impact on North Africa and beyond.
