Tunisia: Government Announces Sfax Terror Attack Disrupted

by | Dec 7, 2022 | Security, Tunisia

Summary:

On 7 December 2022, the Tunisian government announced that a terror plot had been successfully disrupted in Sfax. The plot reportedly targeted a security unit and a religious institution. The individual responsible for the attack planning was arrested and turned over to the courts for investigation. This latest announcement by the government comes following an October announcement that a separate attack targeting security forces was disrupted in Sousse.

Outlook:

As the economic crisis continues to develop in Tunisia, we are closely watching how the terrorism threat evolves. Economic stagnation and unemployment are among the precursors for the emergence of extremist ideologies.  Risk managers should continue to follow closely developments, patterns, and frequency of disrupted attacks as the political and economic environment evolve.
