Tunisia: COVID-19 Cases Emerge as Flu Season Set to Begin
Summary:
On 20 September 2023, the Ministry of Health announced that the seasonal flu vaccine campaign was underway, with flu season approaching.
The Ministry encouraged all citizens to receive flu vaccines, with a priority on those with pre-existing conditions and other health vulnerabilities.
Meanwhile, health officials in Medenine announced a spike in COVID-19 cases over a two-week period from 3 – 17 September 2023. The Medenine region recorded three deaths and 71 new positive cases during that period.
Health officials recommended vaccinations for the general population and physical isolation for individuals who test positive for COVID-19.
Outlook:
COVID-19 continues to pose a limited, but ongoing risk in Tunisia. As flu season approaches, the overlapping risk of the seasonal flu and COVID-19 viruses could impact the operations of organizations in Tunisia.
Organizations should continue to take precautions to avoid spreading illnesses to staff and encourage vaccinations against both the flu and COVID-19.
