Algeria: New Hydrocarbons Bid Round Envisions Expanded Exploration
Summary:
On 14 March 2026, Algeria’s Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines announced preparations for the upcoming “Algeria Bid Round 2026,” a new hydrocarbon licensing tender to be launched by the National Agency for the Valorization of Hydrocarbon Resources (ALNAFT).
According to the ministry, the bid round is expected to open new opportunities for exploration and development across some of the country’s most promising hydrocarbon assets. The initiative follows the previous “Algeria Bid Round 2024,” whose results were announced in June 2025 and led to exploration licenses being awarded to several international companies across five zones.
The new tender forms part of a broader program under which ALNAFT identified multiple hydrocarbon projects intended to attract foreign investment and strengthen strategic partnerships in Algeria’s energy sector.
Outlook:
The upcoming bid round reflects Algeria’s ambition to preserve its position as a key supplier of hydrocarbons to European markets while sustaining long-term production levels.
As Europe continues to diversify its energy sources, Algerian authorities appear keen to attract international investment to accelerate exploration and develop additional reserves. The ongoing war in the Middle East and the resulting uncertainty in global energy markets may also create opportunities for Algeria to strengthen its role as a relatively stable regional supplier.
Expanding partnerships with international energy companies could help Algeria reinforce its strategic importance in Europe’s energy security calculations.
