Mauritania: Greater Tortue Ahmeyim Project Hits LNG Output Targets for 2025
Summary:
On 5 January 2026, Kosmos Energy reported that the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) liquid natural gas (LNG) project, jointly operated by Senegal and Mauritania, reached its intended annual output of 2.7 million tonnes (of LNG).
According to the report, 18 LNG shipments and one condensate cargo shipment were exported during 2025. The field, which began production on 31 December 2024, was developed in partnership with BP, Petrosen, and the Société Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures (SMH).
Kosmos also highlighted operational progress across its West African portfolio, including drilling milestones in Ghana’s Jubilee field and government approvals extending its West Cape Three Points and Deep Water Tano agreements to 2040.
Outlook:
The GTA LNG project reinforces Mauritania’s role as an emerging LNG producer in West Africa and enhances the country’s energy export profile, both regionally, and on the global stage. Its successful operation demonstrates Mauritania’s ability to host large-scale, technically complex energy projects, boosting confidence among international investors and energy companies exploring opportunities in the country.
The field’s consistent performance and strategic location positions Mauritania as a reliable partner in regional and global energy markets, likely attracting further investment in upstream development and LNG infrastructure.
